With the development of the ceramic industry, zirconia ceramics have been widely used. Zirconium oxide ceramics are a mixture of artificially processed and then sintered, not pure brittle corundum. Therefore, depending on the zirconia content of the ceramic, there are generally 95% zirconia ceramics, 97% zirconia ceramics, 99% zirconia, 99.7% zirconia ceramics and the like. So what is the difference between zirconia ceramics and 99 % alumina ceramic?

industrial ceramic parts and components-1

1. Zirconia ceramics

The production of zirconia ceramics requires the preparation of powders with high purity, good dispersion properties, ultrafine particles ,and narrow particle size distribution. There are many preparation methods for zirconia ultrafine powders, and zirconia is usually prepared by purifying zirconium ore. There are three kinds of crystalline forms of pure ZrO2 under normal pressure: monoclinic zirconia (m-ZrO2), tetragonal zirconia (t-ZrO2) and cubic (cubic) zirconia (c-ZrO2). The three crystal forms exist in different temperature ranges.

Different types of stabilizers are usually added to make different types of zirconia ceramics, such as partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ). When the stabilizers are CaO, MgO, and Y2O3, they are represented as Ca-PSZ and Mg-PSZ, respectively. , Y-PSZ, etc. Tetragonal zirconia consisting of metastable t-ZrO2 is called tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (TZP). When the stabilizers added are Y2O3 or CeO2, they are represented by Y-TZP, Ce-TZP, and the like, respectively.

2.,99% alumina ceramic

99% alumina ceramic is one kind of alumina ceramic. Alumina ceramic is one of the early development of high temperature structural ceramic materials. Alumina ceramics can be divided into 75% alumina ceramic , 85% alumina ceramic, 90% alumina ceramic, 95% alumina ceramic and the content of Al2O3 in the ingredients. 99% alumina and so on. Industrial Al2O3 is prepared from diaspore and bauxite. There are only α-Al2O3 in nature, such as sapphire, ruby and natural corundum.

The ceramic material with Al2O3 content above 99.9% belongs to high-purity alumina ceramics, the alumina ceramic with Al2O3 content of about 75% is 75 alumina ceramic, the content of 85% is called 85% alumina ceramic, and the content of 90% is called 90% alumina ceramic. 95% is called 95% alumina ceramic, and 99% is called 99% alumina ceramic. 75% alumina ceramic, 85% alumina ceramic, 90% alumina ceramic, 95% alumina ceramic, 99% ceramic are ordinary alumina ceramics.

99% alumina ceramic material is mainly used to make high- temperature crucible, refractory furnace tube and special wear-resistant materials, such as ceramic seals, water valve sheets and ceramic bearings; 95 alumina ceramics are mainly used as corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant parts; 85 porcelain In addition, due to the incorporation of part of talc, the electrical properties, and mechanical strength are improved, and it can be sealed with metals such as molybdenum, niobium, and tantalum, and some are used as electric vacuum device devices.

The difference between zirconia ceramics and 99% alumina is introduced here. Zirconium oxide is widely used in new energy, automotive military, medical and other fields.
